Saturday 1 April 2017, on occasion of the twenty- second edition of miart – the Milan international exhibition of modern and contemporary art -, the third event of the project IN PRATICA, is to be inaugurated. This cycle of exhibitions, curated by Rischa Paterlini, will be hosted by lawyer Giuseppe Iannaccone, featured among a part of his personal collection of contemporary art, and set within a dedicated area of his legal firm.
Following the introduction of artists Davide Monaldi and Luca De Leva, IN PRATICA will propose, a continuous comparison between the works of established international artists and those of talented, yet still unknown, emerging artists invited to the event to create site-specific projects.
Saturday 1 April, a personal exhibition presenting a series of new art-works by artist Andrea Romano (Milan,1984) will be open to the public, for a special visit at studio, MILKA.
In the catalogue that accompanies the exhibition, Andrea Romano says, “These works are a sort of collage, made up of pieces of my past works, my experiences and reflections that have been deposited and have been evolving for various years. Within the space of Giuseppe Iannaccone’s law firm I felt that real subjects and those drawn could relate to one another and mingle together, as if the works and the public were forms of information on the same level.” Romano’s new pieces have found a place among the works of the Iannaccone collection within the walls of Mr Iannaccone’s law firm, which has been set up specifically for the event. These works are in dialogue with the faces and subjects that occupy this working area, creating a game of assonance, sensitivity and atmosphere.
“Andrea Romano struck me from the first moment I saw his work – says Mr Iannaccone, in the introduction of the exhibition catalogue – His sweet and naive women, in contrast with the hard, cold frames , just like an instance of love that contrast the grey and the coldness of a day and a frenetic existence. His works know how to capture a gaze, the marble frame greatly outlines the space, isolating the work, and creating an almost magical aura that conquests the eye. This alluring effect becomes even more evident in the contrast between the heaviness of the marble frame and the lightness of the pencil drawing. In turn, the soft touch of the graphite brings out a great depth in the faces of the young women portrayed. The eyes of these subjects seem to burrow into the space, unearthing doors that open to peer into their soul. The sentiments that are revealed are complex; there is a kind of sweet melancholy, a slight sadness, something that pushes the mind to go further in depth. These girls seem to have been imprisoned in an armor, as if it were necessary to isolate them from everyday life. Why isolate them so categorically? Perhaps because they are that dream of sweet femininity that chases me or that I continue to chase. It is certain that what Andrea Romano draws is intimate poetry.”
The Andrea Romano exhibition, accompanied by a catalogue, edited by Mousse Publishing, will be open for visits at Mr Iannaccone’s law firm from 2 April to 10 October 2017, by appointment only, for small groups.
