The exhibition marks the beginning of the collaboration between the Foundation Giorgio Amendola and the Galleria Civica Contemporary Art 'Philip Scroppo' Torre Pellice, in order to extend the knowledge dell'ingente artistic heritage, thanks to the legacy of Scroppo, has accumulated Torre Pellice, and now has about 500 works.
He also wants to be a homage paid to the artist for twenty years after his death (24/05/1993), which, as noted by Pino Mantovani participated in his memory, "based his public commitment on a conviction of individual responsibility without authority or alibi: taking so exemplary value the foundation of the Art Club in '48, the teaching at the academy and cultural associations, the commitment of journalists, the opening of the exhibitions of the Tower, in '49. "
This also shows the Fondazione Giorgio Amendola continues its work of making use of Turin artists whose work stands between temporally more Casorati Six of Turin and the Arte Povera and have been heavily underestimated by both the critics and the market, although it was largely the best artists of the following and previous. Galvano, Crippa, Saroni, Ramella, Gribaudo, Ruggeri, Soffiantino, Gorza, Surbone and Clamps are some of these.
In the essay written for the catalog, "Philip Scroppo in the international artistic culture of postwar (1945-1970)," Loris Dadam compares the works in the show with what was going on, in the same year, in Europe and in the United States and found a consonance research and issues: recovery of abstraction classic avant-garde of the 20s and 30s in the early postwar years, the activities of informal action painting and abstract expressionism of the early 50s, to episodes of Pop Art influences .
The extraordinary intellectual curiosity Scroppo has kept him at the center of the debate on modern and contemporary art from 1949 to 1991, through his tireless work as a cultural organizer, through the 41 editions of exhibitions of contemporary art, flanked by Autumn painterly (1959-64) and the National Award of Design (1963-90), in which they exhibited the greatest personalities of the Italian art scene and, with regard to the informal, international.
From the histories in comparison clearly shows how the avant-garde pictorial research conducted in Italy and on both sides of the Atlantic were in fact contemporary and alimentassero the one from the other in synergistic relationship. Only the Pop Art, because arising from a metropolitan reality, it is the phenomenon of secure Anglo-American origins, then picked up by everyone else. But it was founded in 1956 Until then, the cutting-edge research (Abstraction and Informal) take place in tandem.
The exhibition focuses on the emblematic figure of Philip Scroppo, wants to be a first stage of a research aimed to bring out the artistic figures of international standing, now made ??possible by collaboration with the Galleria Civica di Torre Pellice, which is configured as one of the most rich and comprehensive collections of modern art in the Piedmont.
