Palazzo Madama and Pinacoteca Albertina in Turin inaugurate the Christmas season with an exhibition in two locations entitled #Presepio. The image of the Nativity from the Middle Ages to contemporary art.
The exhibition, curated by Guido Curto, professor of the Albertina Academy and Enrica Pagella, Director of Palazzo Madama, offers a course dedicated to the theme of the Nativity in the art, combining in a single project ancient and contemporary art. The graphic symbol #, well known to those who use Twitter and social networks, before the word Nativity is the desire to make the current theme, with the presence in the exhibition of the oldest depictions of the Nativity, along with traditional nativity scenes and the most innovative contemporary interpretations .
Masterpieces of the great artists of the past, as Defendente Ferrari and Mattias Stomer, dialogue with the work of over 50 contemporary artists are mainly active in Piedmont but which enjoy national and international reputation, many of whom have made works of great beauty especially for the exhibition:
The exhibition develops at the Noble Ground Flour of Palazzo Madama, where medieval works, Renaissance, Baroque in the collections of the museum tell, along with nine contemporary works, the evolution of the theme of the Nativity through history. A selection of items of jewelery, drawings and engravings is also exposed in the Chinese Cabinet on the first floor of the Palace. The dialogue between old and contemporary continues in the halls of Pinacotecae in some areas of the Albertina extraordinarily open to the public during the exhibition. Among them, the Hall of Honour is presented where the great artists of the Nativity built in 1976 by Nino Aimone, Francesco Casorati, Riccardo Cordero, James and Francis Soffiantino Tabusso for the church of San Francesco al Fopponino Milan.
On display at the Pinacoteca Albertina also work 42 contemporary artists and a section dedicated to the Neapolitan crib, with some "rocks" of nativity scenes, selected by Mariano Bauduin, and achievements by the prestigious workshop of master Ferrigno via San Greogorio Armeno in Naples. During the holiday season the masters Ferrigno will be present in Turin to propose a workshop open to the public.
For the occasion of the Senate and the Accademia Albertina will offer a rich calendar of guided tours, family activities and workshops available on the sites www.palazzomadamatorino.it www.accademialbertina.torino.it
