By Bassano-native Luigi Fabris, Grande Albergo Ausonia & Hungaria, overlooking Gran Viale, is one of the most appealing examples of Art Nouveau decoration in Europe. Opened in 1907, it is covered by majolica and polychrome bas reliefs in the nuances of ochre, azure and of green which are reminiscent of the colours of the island sands, the sky and the lagoon and sea waters. Together with floral garlands and little angels, two large-sized female figures also appear, as allegories of Venice and Hungary. Inside, much of the original furniture was kept, by Milan-native designer Eugenio Quarti.
