The “squero” is a typical venetian shop where they design, build and repair gondolas. The Squero San Trovaso is the most famous “squero” of Venice, founded in the early 1600s, it is one of the few such shops still active. The “squerarolo” or gondola-maker of San Trovaso builds all gondolas by hand and almost always with no real prior design as the ancient tradition dictates. The Squero San Trovaso organizes tours for those interested in learning about this ancient craft.
