DESCRIZIONE:
In September 2016 the new Museum Voorlinden opened in the presence of King William Alexander in the Dutch town of Wassenaar. The museum houses a permanent collection of modern and contemporary art, collected over the last 50 years by its founder, Joop van Caldenborgh. In addition to the alternation of the works in its collection, the museum will host temporary exhibitions.
With the opening of this new museum, Joop van Caldenborgh has realized his dream. Founder of Caldic chemical group and named in 2012 as the most influential man in the Dutch art world, he was from an early age a avid art collector. Its vast collection of modern and contemporary art, mainly paintings, collages, installations, sculptures and photographs, is known as "Caldic Collection".
Among the works of the permanent collection there is the Swimming Pool of the argentine artist Leandro Erlich (1973), the hyper-realistic Couple under an Umbrella by Ron Mueck (1958), Skyspace by James Turrell (1943), a fascinating glass sculpture by Roni Horn (1955), and masterpieces by Maurizio Cattelan (1960).
The museum is located in a large 40-hectare estate at the edge of a forest, and the modern building that houses it was designed by the Kraaijvanger studio in Rotterdam.
The interior is divided into three general sections, according to the museum's program: presentations of collections, temporary exhibitions and permanent works. The museum has 20 galleries with high ceilings and natural light, spaces dedicated to video presentations and works on paper, an auditorium, a library, educational spaces and the museum shop.
