Bologna - With the creation of Genus Bononiae, a network of eight institutions (including Palazzo Fava, San Colombano, Palazzo Pepoli and Casa Saraceni, the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio in Bologna acquired many works of art, both ancient and contemporary.

After the presentation of the 20th-century works, now a new exhibition opens to the public. From June 27th, it will show the most significant pieces of art from the 14th to the 19th century, acquired between 2001 and 2013. Among them, several 14th-century Bolognese miniatures are included, alongside paintings by Denys Calvaert, Annibale Carracci, Guido Reni, Guercino, Cantarini, Giovanni Andrea Sirani and his daughter Elisabetta, Lorenzo Pasinelli, Donato Crete and Gaetano Gandolfi. The collection features also a group of seventy nativity figurines from the 18th and 19th centuries and some terracotta sculptures by Giacomo De Maria.

Most of them are artworks that the Fondazione CARISBO purchased from private collectors or international antique dealers, in order to give back to the city significant pieces of local artists or collectors. Among the best pieces, which will be displayed at Palazzo Fava, there are "Magdalene" by Antonio Canova and a head in wax by Medardo Rosso.

An important section, which instead will be hosted simultaneously at Casa Saraceni, encompasses donations received in the same years, such as the marble bust of "Nonna Diamante" by Vincenzo Vela, an altarpiece by Giambattista Bertusio, the '13th-century fresco of the "Madonna of the embroidery" by Vitale da Bologna, but also groups of paintings of the 16th and 17th centuries.
