Ravenna - On May 16th, 2014 RavennAntica presents its new museum, which will enrich the prestigious collection of mosaics of the Museo TAMO, in the San Nicolò complex.

The exhibiting area was named "Genius of the Waters", after one of the most important objects in the collection. It is a mosaic found in Piazza Anita Garibaldi in 2011, during the construction of a recycling depot. It represents a bearded man, probably a river god, and dates back to the first or second century A.D.

Like other mosaics that were found in this area, the work was part of the pavement of a Roman domus, decorated with black and white geometric motifs. However, this is a unique discovery, because the "Genius of Water " is the only figurative decoration that was found so far, and shows the close relationship between the city and water.

Once removed from the construction area, the mosaic was renovated by the Laboratorio di Restauro della Fondazione RavennAntica, and can now be observed in a safe place.
