Turin - It has been a few years since Turin set in motion again with many initiatives in the field of culture, contemporary art and design, and it is picking up more and more speed.
After the success of AMIEX, the first Culture Stock exchange organized on March 11th-12th, the regional capital goes submitting its application to become a member of the Unesco Creative Cities. This network, established in 2004, today includes Bologna, city of Music, and Fabriano, in the Crafts and Folk Art category.
The mayor, Piero Fassino introduced the highlights of this initiative on March 14th, 2014. It was planned since february 2013 and will be submitted to Unesco in Paris by March 20th.
Investing especially on design, Fassino identified the automotive industry as their main strength: the sector has shaped the history of the city encouraging its creative side.
In 2008 Turin was also appointed Design Capital, a title conferred by the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design every two years. It aims at awarding those cities which are highly oriented toward design as a tool for economic, social and cultural growth.
The results of the selection process will be announced after the summer season, subsequent to a preliminary phase.
