60 masterpieces from 16th, 19th and 20th-century Lombardy

The Musei Civici of Varese reveal unknown works

Varese - The exhibition "From the 16th to the 20th century. Unknown works from the collection of the Musei Civici of Varese" has just opened at the Castle of Masnago. The event will allow visitors to discover works that had been kept for a long time in the city storages and were finally unveiled, thanks to the researches for the new general catalogue.

The 60 works displayed are divided in three sections, dedicated to the 16th, 19th and 20th-century arts in Lombardy, respectively, plus one devoted to other schools.
Among the most relevant artists, most of them connected to the Brera Academy, there are Bertini, with "Rural rest” (1870), Bazzaro and Mosé Bianchi, but also De Bernardi, with his "View of the Sacred Mountain of Varese" (1934).

Besides the paintings, visitors will have the chance to admire until June 29th, 2014 also some sculptures created by Angelo Frattini and Eugenio Pellini, plus a 16th century terra-cotta from a manufactory of the Emilia region, depicting the "Pietà with Christ, the Virgin Mary and St. John".
