Venice - The halls of Palazzo Cini, the historical palace of Vittorio Cini, a well-known collector, reopen on May 24th, 2014. The Palazzo, which is almost unknown despite its position on the Canal Grande, is in Campo San Vio, on an ideal trail connecting three major institutions in Venice: the Accademia, the Peggy Guggenehim Foundation and Punta della Dogana.

Inside the Palazzo, visitors could admire again the wonderful collection donated to the Fondazione Cini by his heirs almost 30 years ago. It includes important works by great masters such as Giotto, Guariento, Botticelli, Filippo Lippi, Piero di Cosimo and Dosso Dossi, but also two artists of the Ferrara Renaissance like Cosmé Tura.

The Foundation aims at keeping the Palazzo open at least six months a year, promoting researches and studies with the Istituto di Storia dell'Arte and organizing temporary exhibitions in partnership with international institutions.

On the occasion of the opening, the program "L'ospite a Palazzo" begins, hosting the "Portrait of a young man with a lute" by Agnolo Bronzino for two months. The painting comes from the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, and his display was possible thanks to another loan: the Fondazione Cini sent a "Double portrait of friends" by Pontormo to Palazzo Strozzi, where it will be shown within the exhibition "Pontormo e Rosso Fiorentino. Divergenti vie della maniera."
