One of the most anticipated events of international contemporary art emerging returns in Venice : from 23 March to 6 April, the Arsenal of Venice exposes the works of the 110 finalists of 8th Arte Laguna Prize .
On the opening night of Saturday, March 22 , at the "Tese di San Cristoforo", the winners will be announced and awarded special prizes : € 180,000 is the total value of prizes awarded this year. The 5 winners - one for each category in the competition: painting, sculpture and installation, video and performance art, photographic art, digital art and virtual - will win a cash prize of 7,000 Euros each.
Many innovations introduced this year for the special awards:
"Innovative Interactive Tour on Italy 's Telecom Future Centre " continues and strengthens the relationship with Italian Telecom Future Centre this year , in addition to exhibiting the finalists of the section of virtual art , is giving away 5,000 Euros for the implementation of a project for an innovative tourist use of its spaces.
"Artist in Residence" has always been a strong point of the Arte Laguna Prize , the residences of art become 6 this year , with the addition of two new partners. At the Glass School Abate Zanetti of Murano, the festival Slovenian Art Stays , marble company Miramarmi of Vicenza and residence in Mumbai, adding the historic Foundry Art Battle of Milan and the collaboration with the city of Nuremberg that provides for an exchange Venetian artists and cultural cooperation between the Germans.
"Business for Art" in network Arte Laguna , enters Riva 1920 , historical furniture company based in Canterbury . Through the Arte Laguna Prize artists are invited to submit their ideas for the construction of a wooden object of Venetian dolphin . The item will be presented at the Salone del Mobile in Milan in April 2014.
"Artist Gallery " 8th Arte Laguna Prize opens a new form of cooperation with the galleries . No more than 20 , but 4 , carefully selected and only international : ART re.FLEX of St. Petersburg, Paris Galerie Charlot, Carlos Carvalho in Lisbon, Exhibit320 New Delhi. The galleries will choose the artist with which to realize an exhibition accompanied by a bag of 500 euro and a catalog.
During the summer , 2014, also , the ten finalists will be screened video artist in Beijing, in collaboration with Art Nova 100 , and the class sculpture and installation work will be exhibited at the Venice Lido, during the Venice Film Festival , within the event Open 2014.
Another special selection of young artists under 25 is on display at the Institute of Romanian Venice.
Arte Laguna Prize , which in 2010 received the medal of recognition from the President of the Italian Republic , is produced under the auspices of the Ministry of Heritage and Culture , the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Veneto Region , the Institute European Design and IUAV University Ca 'Foscari.
The 110 finalists were chosen by an international jury composed of directors of museums and foundations, independent curators , and chaired by Igor Zanti , director and curator of IED Venice : Italy Bettinello Henry, Director Theatre New Foundations; Silvia Ferri de Lazara Italy, Director of Fondazione March, China Victoria Lu, Creative Director Museum of Contemporary Art in Taiwan ; Domenico Quaranta Italian critic and curator, Veeranganakumari Solanki India, independent curator and art writer, Miguel Amado, Portugal , Portugal 55 pavilion curator. Venice Biennale; Sabrina van der Ley Norway , Oslo Nasjonalmuseet contemporary art department ; Viliani Italian Andrea , director of MADRE Museum of Naples, Jonathan WatkinsRegno Kingdom , director of Ikon Gallery, Claudia Zanfi Italian art historian and cultural manager.
