The Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation opens the new year, confirming its attention to support young artists. The exhibition is dedicated to the assignees of the 12 artist studios, curated by Rachel D' Osualdo, and concludes the residency program that has revitalized the institution during the two thousand years.
The workshop, given by public competition, are located in the Palazzo Carminati at San Stae and the complex of SS. Cosma e Damiano on the Giudecca: here for 12 months, the artists live in a direct confrontation with colleagues, curators, gallerists and journalists from Italy and abroad, thanks to a program of study devoted their visit , meetings with the public, appointments and exhibition opportunities also in collaboration with major national and civic institutions.
As of February 5, 2014 will be visible in the halls of the Gallery of St. Mark's Square , the works of
Amedeo Abello, Thomas Braida and Valerio Nicolai, the collective Cake Away, Commisso Lorenzo , Marco Gobbi, Andrew Grotto, Cristiano Menchini and Adriano Valeri, Dritan Hyska, Rachel Maistrello, Elena Mazzi, Corinne Mazzoli, Romeo Martin, Claudia Rossini, Spela Volcic.
Amedeo Abello has exhibited two works that develop the boundaries of the photographic medium: in Photomaton the goal of photo booths, usually used to produce ID photos, portraits standardized identification documents , is diverted to capture external parties, fleeting images that secure the community and the urban landscape in their contingency and chance. In the installation Life / File, created in collaboration with Federico Morando , specimens of photographic films become graphic through a process of programmed fault, creating a composition in which techniques (analog and digital) and semantic fields are close together seemingly opposite experience the artist.
The duo of Thomas Braida and Valerio Nicolai exposes the fruits of his labor as individual artists, the latest results of their artistic research: monstrous and grotesque characters make up the micro- narratives in the paintings of Thomas Braida , while Valerio Nicolai explores the unfolding of the painting in space. Next, a video collaboration between artists : if it is the world of fairy tales to provide the primary inspiration , that hybridizes with the practices of individual artists and their personal life completely transforming the original story and characters.
It is an exhibition of video, the project proposed by the curatorial collective Cake Away, which has sought to enhance the Young Artists Archive of the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa . In three evening events , which will be held on Tuesdays 11, 18, February 25, 2014 at 6.30 pm at the site of Tito's Palace , some issues will be investigated: the interplay between memory and narrative in video artists , gestures and meanings taken from the body in video art, the different languages ??of video animation.
The evolution of the artistic research of Lorenzo Commisso is exposed through a " show within a show " , a catalog of works, ideas for research and comparisons with artists that have taken place during the year of residence and that materialize the physical and mental well represented the atelier of the artist. During the inauguration will be also performed the audio / video performance COLORS - The Zebra Crossing, developed in collaboration with Rachel Burgato .
The group of artists composed by Marco Gobbi , Andrew Grotto , Cristiano Menchini and Adriano Valeri exposes to the public works throughout the year as part of the project How we dwell ( make your own residence ) : the collective has organized a series residences in the open space ( the banks of the Piave , the auriferous land at Alexandria, the Berici of Vicenza , ending with the Certosa island in the lagoon of Venice ), inviting other artists to take part and to build an environment that could accommodate . Interaction is not predictable, and from time to time different between the participating artists and outer space , using recycled materials together with a kit provided by the creators of the project is a series of works
exhibited in San Marco .
It is the world of work that turns her attention to the installation Dritan Hyska : a mechanically reproduces the audio information on safety at work, but in the yard is the employee to be absent , making this a concept space and abstract rules .
Through a series of short videos , Rachel Maistrello shows visitors an exchange of identity with a guardiasala : in the scenes in the Alberoni beach , the characters perform actions ranging from exercise and discharged a review of majestic works , the report trust between them allows a reversal of roles in which the fragility of both are staged , and expectations of each of them are temporarily suspended.
Elena Mazzi said the exhibition space Reflecting Venice , a project that combines contemporary artistic practices , the historical tradition of Venetian , environmental and ecological considerations and the current scientific research on a prototype of the Solar Wall , installation of mirrors which produces thermodynamic energy . The complexity of the project, its processuality , collaboration between professionals from different sectors are made through a composite installation based on collective work and the creation of a common territory.
It is a challenge that man-machine staged by Corinne Mazzoli in Room Game or contest ! , A contrived and artificial environment in which the viewer is confronted with noisy machines , lights and sounds exasperated as the relationship that exists between man and slot machine , in a society where the easy gold seems to be the antidote to contemporary evils . The inauguration of the exhibition, accompanied by the music of Rotorvator , Metal band from Belluno , a presenter declaim the commandments of a new economy , the economy of Rain of Gold.
Martin Romeo , through a video installation and a video documentary , presents the viewers of the show The Method , interactive dance performance conceived by and held at the New Theatre Foundation of Venice in January 2014. The show is a work on the border between installation and performance , which triggers a reflection on the relationship between the body and the image in contemporary art across the disciplines and new technologies.
The collaboration between Claudia Rossini aka Yamada Hanako and the famous but discussed gondolier Alex Hai, who is also a photographer and director, was born on Gondoliera The project , a series of twenty photographs and a selection of articles and documents that tell the history of Venice heroin fighter Alex . An original view of La Serenissima , a provocative story where the lines between reality and fiction are blurred . The study of form and color relationships between the elements, the ambiguity of the materials , the relationship between organic and inorganic characterize the search for Spela Volcic, ranging from photographic language that sculpture.
The exhibition is accompanied , for the fifth consecutive year , to be a valuable special edition Moleskine company in Milan that produces the well-known notebooks partner and supporter of the program of Atelier since 2008. A special thanks to Stonefly , which supports four years with a valuable contribution to the work of the Atelier BLM.
