Samarcanda project developed from an idea of italian artist Matteo Peretti (Rome 1975). This project wants to be a crossroad of knowledge on the paths of art: it will begin on the Isola della Certosa spaces during the Biennale exhibition (7 May-22 November 2015) where the installation "Volumes:Water" (already selected among the finalists works of the Premio Arte Laguna) will be presented, and will continue in the spaces between Giardini and Arsenale, where the other performances and installations of the project will take place during the opening weekend of the 2015 edition of the Biennal exhibition in Venice (6-10 May 2015). Samarcanda will also be presented during the double solo retrospective show of the artist, "The Irony of Knowledge Vol. 1 and 2" curated by Gianluca Marziani, at PAN Museum in Naples and Palazzo Collicola Arti Visive in Spoleto.

The city of Samarcanda, among the most ancient cities in the world, was born as a meeting point of different cultures, because of its particular geographical position in the center of the Silk Road, the most important commercial route by land between Asia and Europe. As the ancient Samarcanda, the project intends to be an itinerant pavillion, such as the caravans that transported the silk and other precious goods during the ancient times from one side to another of the known world, and will bring the art in different parts of the city, in direct contact with different cultures and situations in order to create new exchanges and synergies.
The project consists of four installations pieces (Volumes:Water, Se la Libertà avesse un peso, Tombini:Infanzia, Trap) and four performances (Unrestrainable Faith, Flag:EU, Presumption of Innocence, Motherhood), which, except made for Water, the only fixed piece of art, will be displaced in different points of the city and they will be mobile in order to communicate with different contexts in the city. Through the interaction with the spectators, the works and the performances of the project intend to set the bases for a reflection, artistic and broadly social, on the individual and on the global human condition.
