The name of the Pisani dinasty immediately evokes a sense of opulence and wealth. Of the various branches of the family, the best known are those of Santo Stefano, responsible for the construction of the villa Pisani in Stra, and of San Polo, better known by the epithet of Moretta, who owned the splendid palace on the Grand Canal decorated in the mid-18th century by Venice’s leading artists of the time.
Some light is shed on the family history by part of the family archive donated to the library of the Museo Correr by Count Leonardo de Lazara Pisani Zusto in 1975, but this is not the only link between the moretta and the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia.
Starting with the famous Daedalus and Icarus by Canova and moving on to the family archive, the Pisani and subsequent heirs over time have repeatedly bequeathed some extraordinary works from their collection to the city.
On this occasion, thanks to the generous help of the heirs, some paintings and objects belonging to the famous family and still preserved by the heirs are being shown with this nucleus, to document the splendour and taste of some of the protagonists of 18th-century Venice.
