Built by Pope Pelagius I and John III in the Seventh Century, the church contains the remains of the Apostles Philip and James, but it was named for the 12 disciples of Jesus. Tied to the history of the Colonna family, whose home adjoins the church, it was renovated by Martin V in Fifteenth Century. At the beginning of the 1700s, Clement XI entrusted the churches remodelling to Francesco and Carlo Fontana. The neoclassic facade is by Giuseppe Valadier (1827). The splendid interior, unfortunately, no longer contains the fresco Angeli Musicanti by Melozzo da Forlì, today at the Vatican Museums.
