Apse Mosaics
The splendid mosaics of the Basilica represent two distinct phases: the first of the Twelfth Century, to which belongs the beautiful scene of Jesus and the Virgin-Ecclesia, embracing and seated on the same throne. Below are six scenes by Cavallini a century and a half later, commissioned by Bertoldo Stefaneschi, depicting the Stories of the Virgin.
