Crucifixion, Martyrdom and Burial of Saint Andrew

In 1647, with the death of Lanfranco, Cardinale Francesco Peretti decided to seek out a painter to paint frescoes in the choir by holding a contest in time to embellish the Theatine church for the Jubilee of 1650. He chose the Calabrese painter, who had moved to Rome in 1630, and the work was completed between 1650 and 1651. It had very little success, but caused such scandal that the painter moved to Naples a few years later and then ended is life in Malta.
