Forum of Augustus

Fori Imperiali, Colosseo

Forum of Augustus
This was built ex voto after the victory of Augustus in Filippi against the assassins of Caesar, Brutus and Cassius, fought in 42 B.C. The temple is dedicated to Marte Ultore (Mars, the roman god of war) and a fire-proof wall was built behind it to protect it from the frequent fires that broke out in the adjoining impoverished neighborhood of Suburra.
