The oval fountain was designed inside the Parco del Valentino by Carlo Ceppi for the 1898 National Exposition for the fiftieth anniversary of the Albertine Statute. The balustrade from which a cascade falls is decorated by statues portraying the Months and Rivers of Turin (Po, Stura, Dora and Sangone), made by various sculptors including Edoardo Rubino, Luigi Contratti, Giuseppe Cerini, Cesare Biscarra, Vittorio Bonino and Giacomo Cometti. The recently restored structure is Art Nouveau with nostalgic rocaille touches. The shape follows the natural slope of the ground sloping towards the Po river.
