From 1984 the museum is located in the medieval Rivoli Castle, a residence of the House of Savoy set on fire during the war against the French (1693) and grandiosely restructured in 1718 by Filippo Juvarra for prince Victor Amadeus II, but never completed. The three floors of the building and the Manica Lunga gallery (140 m long and 7 m high) house the prestigious permanent collection of the museum and temporary exhibits.
