It is the most important gallery of Venetian painting from the XIV and XVIII century: there are preserved masterpieces of the most famous masters like Bellini, Giorgione, Carpaccio, Titian, Tintoretto, Veronese and Tiepolo.
The Academia Galleries are located inside the compound of the Grand School of Charity, the church of Charity (Bartolomeo Bon, 1441-1452), and the convent of the Canons Regular of the Lateran, designed in 1561 by Palladio.
Officially established in 1807, by Napoleonic decree, the collection was initially conceived as an art gallery of the Academy of Fine Arts, and it became a separate museum only at the beginning of the XIX century.
The works started in 2005 with the transfer of the Academia at the former Ospedale degli Incurabili, recently completed. These efforts have led to the doubling of the exhibition space.
