Madonna della Salute

The byzantine icon was brought to Venice in 1672 by Francesco Morosini. Surrounded by a grandiose altar designed by Longhena and realized by flemish artist Giusto Le Court, it is venerated as Madonna della Salute with utmost solemnity by venetians who make pilgrimmages here on 21 November, day of its consecration, across a bridge of boats stringed across the Great Canal.
