Among the mosaics that almost fully cover the interior of the basilica, a special place is reserved to those located on the arch separating the dome of Pentecost from that of Ascension. They depict the scenes of the passion of the Christ, from the Betrayal of Judas to the Descent to limbo, with such an expressiveness and dramatic charge that separate them from Byzantine cycles.
