This painting was originally located inside the dining room of banker Gerolamo Priuli. It was then moved to the chapel of the Blessed at San Salvador. Here in 1580 Francesco Sansovino saw it and attributed it to Giovanni Bellini. Only recently was it ascribed to Vittore Carpaccio. In the painting, the customer of the painting, Gerolamo Priuli, is portrayed in a black robe. On the opposite side, an Oriental-dressed character symbolises the human race neglecting the Gospel. On either side are the two disciples who welcomed Jesus to their mess together with the Pilgrim. On the bottom right corner, a partridge is the symbol of the condition of humankind on its journey
