DESCRIZIONE:

Tradition claims that the church was built in the Fifth Century above the house of the martyr Cecilia, killed at the time of Marcus Aurelius, around 220. Completely rebuilt by Pope Paschal I between the Twelfth and Thirteenth Centuries, it was given a portico, bell tower, a convent and a cloister. It was partially transformed by successive restorations, particularly that of Cardinal Francesco Acquaviva in the 1700s, who called upon Ferdinando Fuga, who was responsible for the monumental view onto the piazza.
