DESCRIZIONE:
At the beginning of the 1900s, with the circulation in Venice of new bold and “breakthrough” architectural tastes, the Commission of Ornaments was very busy assessing – and often rejecting – the new projects submitted. The design by Domenico Rupolo was approved, and in 1906 he built Villa Romanelli, in a “revival” style. The architect, already famous for his design of the Rialto Fish market, here chose a Gothic-Byzantine style, in places influenced by Art Nouveau patterns.
Next to the Venetian tradition, visible in the two- and three-mullioned windows, the floral decorations of the attic appear, while the brick surface is partly interrupted by a polychrome ceramic and Verona stone cover. In the garden there is a XVIII-century fountain, perhaps from the Villa Nazionale di Stra.
