Florence - The Tavola Doria is one of the most precious proofs of the well-known mural painting of the "Battle of Anghiari". Leonardo was called to paint it at the beginning of the 16th century for the Salone dei Cinquecento inside Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, just in front of the "Battle of Cascina" by Michelangelo.

Today only copies and later studies are left: this representation of the "Fight for the flag" is one of them - although many scholars consider it as an original work -  and was included in the collection of the Doria family in Genoa since 1621.

The painting changed many owners through the centuries, until it disappeared around 1930s. Thanks to the Carabinieri Unit for the Cultural Heritage Protection, it was found in Switzerland after a long search. However, in the meantime it had been purchased by the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum in 1993.

According to an international agreement the wooden panel will be repeatedly exhibited in Italy for two years and in Japan for the following four years.

Since 2012, after its restoration by the Opificio delle Pietre Dure, it was presented at the Quirinale, in Anghiari and at the National Central Library in Florence. The last leg will be at the Uffizi Gallery, where it will stay for a hundred days from March 25th to June 29th.
On this occasion it will be displayed in the Room of the Geographical Maps, next to other three panels from the 16th century, which are copies and studies of the work of the master from Vinci.
