Genova - After twenty years of restoration the Villa del Principe in Genoa, a house built around 1530 for Andrea Doria, reopens to the public.

The entire structure was renovated, including the garden with fountains of Neptune and the Dolphins, and one with artificial grotto decorated with shells, corals and stalactites.

Inside the Palace the original furniture was brought back, and the famous frescoes by Perino del Vaga, a pupil of Raphael, were restored too. They represent historical scenes, such as the "Triumphs of Lucio Emilio Paolo" in the atrium, in which he puts to flight the Gauls from Liguria, or mythological ones, like the "Jupiter fulminating the rebel Giants", interpreted as an allegory of Charles V triumphing on his enemies.

Finally, a team of experts focused on three cycles of tapestries created between the 15th and 16th century, which show the close relationship that the Maritime Republic had with Flanders at that time.

On the occasion of the reopening, on May 30, 2014, the villa will host two new works from the Roman residences of the Doria Pamphili family: two busts of Pope Innocent X and Pope Gregory XV made ??by Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
