Mantova - The Palazzo Ducale in Mantua opens the holiday season with good news.
The institution has just announced the temporary reopening of the Camera degli Sposi, where frescoes by Mantegna could be seen again despite the partial restoration.

In order not to disappoint the tourists in the next months, the Soprintendenza decided to open the hall from July 19th to October 5th, 2014. After this date, the works will restart on the main floor and will be completed by December.

The biggest news, however, regards the new acquisitions, which were made ??possible by a collaboration with the Soprintendenza of Historical, Artistic and Ethno-anthropological Heritage of Milan.
At the end of June the collections of Old Masters welcomed three new works.

The first is an altarpiece by Giuseppe Bazzani (1690-1769) depicting the "Holy Family with St. Roch", coming from the oratory of San Rocco di Acquanegra. The painting was purchased by the Government, which donated it to the palace in Mantua.

Next to this, the Pinacoteca di Brera landed two artworks from the late 16th century, originally painted for the chapel of Guglielmo Gonzaga inside the Palazzo Ducale. The "Resurrection" and '"Adoration of the Shepherds" will join a third work, dedicated to the "Transfiguration", which has always remained in the palace of Mantua at the Gallery of Santa Barbara. Erroneously attributed to Giulio Romano, they might be a creation of the artist Lorenzo Costa the Younger.
