Rome - The cycle of lectures "l Giovedì dei Musei" continues at the Vatican Museums, where a conference related to the restoration of the Young St. John the Baptist of Úbeda takes place on June 12th, 2014 at 4pm.

According to some scholars, who identified it since 1930 as an early work by Michelangelo that was missing, the sculpture was donated in 1537 by Cosimo I de' Medici to Francisco de Los Cobos, as a symbol of gratitude for the political support offered by Spain to the Florentine state.
The Andalusian gentleman wanted it in his funerary chapel of El Salvador in Úbeda, where it remained until its destruction, which occurred on July 26th, 1936 during a bombing raid.

At end of 1994, the Opificio delle Pietre Dure began a delicate reconstruction from 17 fragments, a process that ended after almost twenty years, in 2013.
The conference at the Vatican Museums will be an opportunity to discover all the stages of this incredible restoration and will shed light on the many issues related to the attribution of the state.
