Siena - Spring is about to begin and the secret halls of the Palazzo Comunale in Siena will open again on March 22nd and 23rd, 2014. Thanks to guided tours, specifically organized for this event, visitors will have the chance to experience a wonderful tour in local arts, discovering masterpieces usually "hidden" in the offices of the Town Hall.

The Palazzo, which is renowned for the fresco cycle with Good and Bad Government by Ambrogio Lorenzetti and with the Maestà by Simone Martini, will unveil six "secret rooms" and two entrance halls. Inside here, major works of art have been on display for centuries: from the stone wolves attributed to Giovanni Pisano to the frescoes of masters such as Sano di Pietro, Lorenzo di Pietro known as Vecchietta and Giovanni Antonio Bazzi known as Sodoma. Next to them, visitors could admire the gold leafing by 14th century artists like Lippo Memmi, but also local 17th century masterpieces (Domenico and Rutilio Manetti, Deifebo Burbarini, Astolfo Petrazzi, Bernardino Mei, Francesco Rustici).

As for the vernal equinox, this initiative will take place also during the summer solstice. On June 21st and 22nd people will have the opportunity to enter again the secret rooms and join the same program.
The town of Siena is highly committed in promoting its heritage among its residents. As a candidate city for the Capital of culture 2019, it has already programmed various renovation works and relevant projects, which have affected mainly the Cathedral area.
