Siena - The "Door of Heaven" in the monumental Factory of the Siena Cathedral could be admired again from March 1st. The path, inaugurated for the first time last spring after long works of restoration, now allows to access areas never opened to the public and once restricted to the architects who worked on the project since 1215.
Walking across a walkway over the interior of the church, people are invited to climb up and admire from above the the contrast of the marbles, the intarsia in the pavement and the multicolored windows.

The celestial entrance opens up to the visitors as they were walking up the stairway appeared to Jacob in a dream, with its top reaching to heaven and the angels of God ascending and descending on it. (Genesis 28, 10-22).
However, "door of heaven", according to Litany of Loreto, is also the Virgin Mary, conceived as "Assumed Queen". The itinerary from up above will allow a better understanding of the dedication of the Siena Cathedral to the Assumption of Mary and the strong relationship of the citizens with their patron saint, confirmed by the motto "Sena vetus civitas Virginis".

On this occasion the Opera della Metropolitana has introduced OpaSiPass, a new pass that offers guided tours to the Door of Heaven and allows to access other museums of the Historical Complex of the Cathedral.
