Rome city will host a great exhibition dedicated to the one of the most passionate and beloved artists of her period: Artemisia Gentileschi.
The location will be Palazzo Braschi a magnificent palace of the XIX century between Piazza Navona and Corso Vittorio Emanuele II
The artist was born in Rome in 1593 and she died in Naples in 1653, she was the protagonist of well- known dramatic and disgraceful episodes. She lived mainly in Florence(1613-1620), in Rome (1620-1626) and in Naples (1626-1630).
The exhibition is a journey inside Artemisia’s art and life, with a deepened analysis about the influences and the exchanges with other artists.
The exhibition is a result of a long preparatory work, with important paintings coming from the most important Museums of the World: the Metropolitan Museum of New York, the Capodimonte Museum, the Wadsworth Atheneum of Hartford Connecticut, the Galleria Palatina of Palazzo Pitti in Florence and Národní galerie v Praze in Prague.
Extraordinary works, as “Judith Slaying Holofernes” (Capodimonte Museum), “Esther before Ahasuerus” (Metropolitan Museum of New York), “self-portrait” playing a LuteAutoritratto (Wadsworth Atheneum of Hartford Connecticut) are exposed together with many others.
Other paintings are exposed beside the Artemisia ones. They belong to the protagonists of the XVII century: artists such as Cristofano Allori, Simon Vouet, Giovanni Baglione, Antiveduto Grammatica and Giuseppe Ribera.
