Antonio Battaglia Gallery is glad to present the first personal exhibition of the Japanese artistTetsuro Shimizu (Tokyo, 1958) on Tuesday 27th November at 7 pm.
All the artworks the artist made in the last two years will be in the exhibition; they’ve been created working on a scale maquette of the gallery.
Shimizu works on the creation of the painting by shaping the canvas and the frames he personally builds.
The paint enters the frames’ crevice and spread beyond the usual perimeter of the painting; it thus creates a relationship with a different space.
The exhibition keys are the strength of painting and meditation on it that are always present in the visual art language. Tetsuro uses his hands; he uses ancient techniques such as preparation of unrefined canvas with rabbit-skin glue. He gives depth and density to the vibrant brush strokes and stratification of oil painting in the bright colors of a “Mediterranean Japanese” artist.
Tetsuro Shimizu has been living and working in Milan since 1987. He studied at Brera Accademy where Gotterdo Ortelli was his teacher. With Gottardo Ortelli he created a partnership displaying artworks together with him in several uniconic exhibitions; the last, titled Bressan, Ortelli, Shimizu, took place in 2015 at Antonio Battaglia Gallery . In 2016 Shimizu had the last solo art exhibition in Milan at Il Milione Gallery.
Catalog available at the gallery; text by Giuseppe Bonini.
