“We will name her Tempest” is the title of Ruth Beraha’s solo exhibition at A plus A gallery. The show will open in Venice on April 6th, 2022. It is the second chap- ter of a series of exhibitions shown recently at italian and international institu- tions.
The exhibition is the result of a reflection on the dominant position of images in our societies. It stems from the artist’s desire to escape the systemic power of the gaze. The public moves among the remains of an imaginary place of worship. A metal skeleton recalls the architecture of a cathedral in ruin, within which there are voices, songs and apparitions of visual works.
The desire of the artist to escape from the abusive power of images is expressed through a series of sound and sculptural installations, typical of an iconoclastic dystopia. The title “We will name her Tempest” recalls a destructive but also purifying event that is yet to come. It is magnificent and terrible at the same time, something that is at once devastating and renewing.
With a text by Bernardo Follini, translated by Matilde Soligno.
The project was made possible thanks to a grant from the Pollock-Krasner Foun- dation, of which Ruth Beraha is one of the 2022 recipients and thanks to the sup- port of Ditta Braggio, Vicenza.
Design by Giuseppe Ricupero.
Original music and voice (for the artwork Anthema): Lorenzo Esposito Fornasari.
Thanks to: Grazia Sechi e Angelo Ancorato, Simone Luigi Fagnani (Rasch Au- dio), Andrea Sanson, Diego Tolomelli e Andrea (IKO Studio), Studi Telara (Mau- ro Tonazzini e Adriano Gerbi), Lorenzo Passi, Mattia Sinigaglia, Giovanni Danto- mio (WeExhibit).
