The Baths
  • Location: The Baths
  • Date: 298 B.C. - 306 B.C.
Built between the Third and Fourth Centuries, these were the largest baths of ancient Rome. They were started by Maximian who was nominated Emperor of the West by Diocletian. They were built to serve the areas of the Quirinal, Viminal and Esquiline. They were comprised of a grand exedra at the entrance, pools, gyms and three distinctly different thermal baths: calidarium, tepidarium e frigidarium.
They were used until 537 when the Goths cut off the aqueducts that linked them to their sources.
