The Mass of San Basilio
The most celebrated work of the french painter. It was created for Pope Benedict XIV for one of the altars of Saint Peter's at the Vatican to replace the painting by Girolamo Muziano, which was ruined by humidity. It was exhibited in 1748 but to avoid its deterioration, it was translated into a mosaic and, in 1751, it was brought to Santa Maria degli Angeli.
