Dedicated to the celebrated pontiff of the Sixth Century, it was built during the Middle Ages on the spot where the Saint had created the monastery of Sant'Andrea. During the roman era, the area was heavily populated by average citizens. It was Scipione Borghese who commissioned Giovan Battista Soria to build the portico and facade, which is an almost perfect reproduction of San Luigi dei Francesi, perhaps by  Giacomo della Porta. From the stairway of the church it is possible to enjoy one of the best views of the Palatine.
