It takes its name from the Dora Riparia river which runs here and started being inhabited back in the XIV century, when mills were built along the river. In the XVII century the House of Savoy established the powder magazine and the forge shop of barrels, rebuilt in 1856 (New Arsenal). At the east end of Cottolengo, along via Lanino, Mameli and Borgo Dora, every Saturday morning and the second Sunday of the month it hosts the Balôn flea market, popular among Turin residents and tourists.
