Scaccabarozzi Home – Slice of Polenta
This curious building was built by Alessandro Antonelli on a triangular plot owned by him (1840-81) and named after his wife, Francesca Scaccabarozzi. The particular shape of the plot forced the architect to build a 24m-high building with sides of different sizes, ranging from the 16 metres of via Giulia di Barolo, to the 4.35 metres on corso San Maurizio down to the 54 cm on the opposite side. At the time there were immediate doubts on the stability of the structure, which was quickly nicknamed "Slice of Polenta" because of its appearance.
