The Piccola Casa della Divina Provvidenza is a huge care-giving and hospital centre covering three blocks. It was founded in 1828 by canon Giuseppe Benedetto Cottolengo (1786-1842) to care for the orphans, the poor and the sick and moved to its current location, the pre-industrial district then called Valdocco, in 1832. The Turin institute, with a swan-neck facade and statue of the founder, is the central headquarter managing approximately fifteen branches scattered all over the world.
