The CAMERA project originates from the desire to provide Italy with a centre focusing on photography as a form of artistic language, documentation and expression, coupled with the aim of valorising and promoting Italian photography in a permanent and creative dialogue with the international arena.

By carrying out studies, experiments and activities revolving around photography, CAMERA’s cultural offer is designed to generate exchanges, raise questions and explore the representation of reality through images in great depth. Every aspect of photography is studied as a language, and the outcome is exhibited with no exceptions in terms of genre or function.

CAMERA promotes an international network of collaborating institutions and personalities, with the aim of developing new projects and providing the multiple opportunities offered by the medium to the widest possible public.

With 2,000 square metres of floor space, CAMERA is based at number 18 Via delle Rosine, in premises leased from the Opera Munifica Istruzione known as the Isolato di Santa Pelagia, in the building where the very first public school of the Kingdom of Italy was founded. CAMERA’s central positioning – between Piazza Vittorio and Piazza Castello – a stone’s throw from the Mole Antonelliana, guarantees easy access for citizens and tourists.

Exhibitions, Archives, Educational and Territories Activities are the cornerstones of CAMERA’s activities.

Exhibitions: three main shows and other complementary events to be staged per year.
Educational: workshops, seminars, master classes and educational programmes for schools.
Archives: development of a common multimedia platform, valorisation of the Italian photo archive heritage.
Territories: a multidisciplinary department, designed to put together synergies and shared projects with national and international partners, such as institutions, festivals, fairs and other cultural events.
