The beach of Hotel Excelsior has elegant huts of white canvas, and is often patronised by VIPs and film stars. At the beginning of the 1900s, when the hotel was under construction, this beach was shared with the children of the Sea Hospice, who came here seeking relief from diseases like scrofula. Soon the Compagnia Italiana Grandi Alberghi gave the hospital a large land parcel on the beach near Favorita, so that the guests would not be upset by the suffering children.
