The Palace was commissioned in the XV century by the Pesaro noble family, who lived in there for approximately three centuries. In decline at the beginning of the XX century, it was purchased by Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo, who started its renovation and turned it into his home and laboratory. The painter, scenographer, designer, photographer and sculptor, born in Granada and transferred to Venice in 1898, is mostly famous for the impact he had on early XX-century fashion, when with his pleated silk dresses inspired by ancient Greece he dressed divas like Eleonora Duse, Isadora Duncan and Sarah Bernhardt. The Palace today houses, in addition to temporary exhibits, a permanent collection that returns the work of the artist in its multifaceted nature: original tunics, textiles and printed silks covering the rooms, chandeliers designed by him and pictures.
