Upturned Boat Ceiling

San Marco

Upturned Boat Ceiling
During the course of the fifteenth-century reconstruction, the inside of the church was enriched with the splendid wooden ceiling in the form of an upturned boat, decorated with multicoloured roses. Along with that of San Giacomo dell’Orio, it is one of the rare examples preserved in this particular format created by Venetian workers, who were particularly skilled in shipbuilding.
