Nato ad Edimburgo, in Scozia, nel 1955. Ha frequentato la Winchester School of Art e il Gloucestershire College of Art and Design, dopo gli studi post-laurea alla Slade School of Sculpture, University College di Londra, nel 1993 fu ammesso come associato nella Royal British Society of Sculptors.Durante la sua carriera trentennale, le opere di Begbie sono state esposte nelle gallerie di tutto il mondo e sono entrate a far parte di importanti collezioni, tra cui: la Galleria Nazionale della Canada, dell’Italia e dell’Australia. Il museo di Storia Naturale di Londra e il museo Beelden uno Zee in Olanda.L’artista ha collaborato a numerosi progetti con architetti, interior designer e stilisti che ammirano il suo lavoro e hanno avuto la visione di integrare la sua scultura all'interno dei loro concetti. Gli sono state commissionate diverse installazioni per edifici aziendali, alberghi,centri benessere, musei e chiese.
