DESCRIZIONE:
Originally it was an iron bridge, built in 1854 by English engineer Neville. Then in 1932 it was replaced by a wooden structure, which was supposed to be provisional. It is the fourth bridge connecting the two shores of the Grand Canal and it is undoubtedly the one with the best view: on one side Palazzo Balbi with the two obelisks where the Canal bends, and on the other side Saint Mark’s Basin with Chiesa della Salute in view. The documents recount that already during the 1400s a proposal was put forward to erect a new bridge on the very same spot, but "the Venetian Council laughed it off" and the initiative was not undertaken.
