DESCRIZIONE:
The palace in Venetian Gothic style located "in volta del canal" (in the wider curve of the Grand Canal), owes its name to the Doge Francesco Foscari. In fact in 1452 the governor of the Venetian Republic bought at auction an old building called 'House of the Two Towers', belonged first to Gianfrancesco Gonzaga, ruler of Mantua, and then to Francesco Sforza, the future Duke of Milan, gave the order to shoot it down, and in its place he built a stately palace, a symbol of the prestige of his Foscari family.

Since 1868 the palace is home to the University Ca' Foscari University of Venice, founded by the economist Luigi Luzzatti, as the High School of Commerce.

With its majestic facade this building overlooks the Grand Canal, in a strategic location from where the view stretches from the Rialto Bridge to the Academy. Inside you can admire views of rare beauty: the Ca' Foscari courtyard, surrounded by walls, the wellheads finely decorated, the Gothic arches of the inputs of water and earth, the Great Hall with eighteenth century frescoes, the old courtyard with external staircase of Ca' Giustinian, the adjacent building became part of the complex since 1942.

During the '30s and' 60s Carlo Scarpa, the famous Venetian architect and designer, intervened to restore the current Barter Hall and adjacent spaces.
Date back to the 30's also the two frescoes at Aula Baratto: Venice, Italy and the studies of Mario Sironi and School of Mario De Luigi.

Most recently between 2004 and 2006 Ca' Foscari and Ca' Giustinian were subject to further restoration which involved among others the construction of internal connections between the two buildings.
During the works they were found remains of the IX century under the outside courtyard and were brought to light a floor of the XV century frescoed ceilings and gilding of the XVI century in one of the rooms on the second floor.
