Historical and cultural centre of the old Savoyard city and today’s modern metropolis, it was designed in a quadrangular shape by Ascanio Vitozzi in 1587 to revamp the area near the Castle, today Palazzo Madama, standing out in the centre. Subsequent changes have altered its original appearance, mainly on the North-Eastern side occupied by the Royal Palace. This is where some of the most important arterial roads of Turin like via Roma, via Po, via Garibaldi merge together.
